Chapter 7 BRU (Backup and Restore 2.0) Messages

The messages in this chapter are generated by the Backup and
Restore 2.0 subsystem. The subsystem ID displayed by these messages
includes BRU as the subsystem name. When the message is displayed
on your terminal, it is preceded by either Error, Info, or Warning. | | | | | NOTE: Negative-numbered messages are common to most subsystems. If
you receive a negative-numbered message that is not described
in this chapter, see Chapter 15. | | | | |
 | 5000 Error 5000 Job ID: job-id Process Name: process-name Component: component The
DMA, process-name, failed
to start the job. Return code: rc File: file-name Line:
             line-num | | job-id | is a valid, unique job identifier with a maximum of
eight characters. job-id is not case-sensitive. | | process-name | is the process name for the data management application
(DMA) process. | | component | is the data management application (DMA) component
of Backup and Restore 2.0. | | rc | is the return code. | | file-name | is the name of the Backup and Restore 2.0 source
file. | | line-num | is the line number within the source file where the
                error occurred. |
Cause  A serious configuration problem occurred. Either a transient
resource shortage occurred or a more permanent problem
exists. Effect  The job terminates. After the DMA process issues this
message, the DMA terminates because an aspect of job
initialization failed. This message might also be accompanied
by one or more 5002 messages, typically when the DMA attempts
to start a Tape Service or Data Service and an aspect
of the services’ initialization fails. Recovery  Perform these steps: Determine the reason for failure. For example, sufficient
virtual memory might not be available in a given processor
for segment allocation in a starting process, or parsing
the BRCMD file was not successful. Make any necessary changes. Correct the configuration
problem. Try the BACKUP or RESTORE command again. If the Backup or Restore job fails again, gather all
relevant EMS logs and SaveAbend files and contact your
service provider.

that does not exist. Effect  The job terminates. Recovery  Check the Event Management Service (EMS) logs. This message
is usually accompanied by other event messages. Perform
these steps: Determine the reason for failure. Make any necessary changes. Try the BACKUP or RESTORE command again. If the Backup or Restore job fails again, gather all

of either a transient resource shortages or a permanent
internal failure. Effect  The job terminates. Recovery  Perform these steps: Check the Event Management Service (EMS) logs. This
message is usually accompanied by other event messages
inserted in the EMS log. Determine the reason for failure. This event indicates
a serious problem. Make any necessary changes. Try the BACKUP or RESTORE command again. If the Backup or Restore job fails again, gather all
relevant EMS logs and SaveAbend files and contact your

 | 5033 Error 5033 - Process Name: process-name Component: component Deleting invalid file file-name. | | process-name | is the process name for the component of Backup and
Restore 2.0. | | component | is the data management application (DMA), Data Service,
or Tape Service component of Backup and Restore 2.0. | | file-name | is the name of the BRJOBS file or BRCONFIG file. |
Cause  Either the BRJOBS file or BRCONFIG file is invalid. Effect  The invalid file is deleted if possible. If the file is
deleted, either a new empty BRJOBS file or a new BRCONFIG
file with default configuration values is created. Recovery  If the BRJOBS file or BRCONFIG file is deleted and
re-created, either use the new file or restore a previous version
of the file. If the BRJOBS file or BRCONFIG file is not
deleted, either use the DELETE command to delete the file
and allow a new file to be created or restore a previous
version of the file. |
 | 5034 Error 5034 - Process Name: process-name Component: component No more automatically-generated
jobids available. | | process-name | is the process name for the component of Backup and
Restore 2.0. | | component | is the data management application (DMA), Data Service,
or Tape Service component of Backup and Restore 2.0. |
Cause  No more automatically generated job IDs are available.
Automatically generated job IDs consist of the letters ZBR
and a 5-digit hexadecimal number from ZBR00000 through
ZBRFFFFF. A job ID is in use if that job ID exists in
the BRJOBS file or if any files exist in the $brjobsvolume.jobid subvolume. Effect  The job fails. Recovery  To manually specify the job ID for backup and restore jobs
until automatically generated job IDs are made available,
retry the BACKUP or RESTORE command and specify a job
ID using the JOB job option. To make more automatically generated job IDs available: Use the CLEANUP JOB command to purge temporary files from
old BACKUP and RESTORE jobs. Use the DELETE JOB command to remove old jobs from the
BRJOBS file. Manually purge trace files and any other files for old
              jobs.
